Millennium Stadium

The Millennium Stadium is located on the banks of the River Taff right in the heart of the Welsh capital, Cardiff.

With a capacity of 74,500, the venue is Wales’ national stadium and home of the Welsh national rugby team. As well as hosting the 1999 Rugby World Cup final, it has played host to football matches, speedway, boxing events and many live music concerts.

Millennium Stadium had the honour of hosting the very first event of the London 2012 Olympic Games, with women's Football matches that took place on 25 July, two days before the Opening Ceremony.

The design and build

Fifty-six thousand tonnes of concrete and steel went into creating the Millennium Stadium in a construction project that ran between 1997 and 1999, on the site of the old national stadium.

Featuring the first fully-retractable roof in the UK, the Millennium Stadium is a truly multi-purpose venue.

After the Games

Millennium Stadium will continue to be used as the home of the Welsh rugby team.
