Zoe's nomination story

I believe that Zoe would be an ideal candidate as a Torch Bearer for Telford in Shropshire. Zoe is now 17 years old and over the past few years has cared for her mother almost without support. Her Mum was diagnosed with Cancer and together they battled through the treatment and emotions until she sadly passed away. They had a wonderful relationship and mostly they lived alone. During this terrible time in her life, Zoe promised her Mum that she would do her best and she achieved outstanding exam results at the Abraham Darby School. She didn't have much spare time between caring for her Mother and studying but she spent that with other young people, helping many of them with their own personal experiences and was successful in becoming a Cub Scout Leader. She never missed a meeting during the period of her mother's illness. Zoe is loved by the young cubs and she is admired by the parents and friends as they see the enormous amount of time and effort she puts into her role. Zoe has a wonderful outlook on life and her own circumstances have enabled her to help others through their traumas and life's hurdles. She has continued to strive at School towards her own personal goals but also because of her promise to her Mother and everyone is so proud that she has become Head Girl at the Abraham Darby secondary school for 2011. Zoe is an inspiration to us all and very worthy of our nomination as a Torch Bearer. 'Abraham Darby Academy, not Abraham Darby School' 'Abraham Darby Academy, not Abraham Darby secondary school'
