Zoe's nomination story

Zoe is 18 and a level student with an ambition to become either a nurse or a teacher. She volunteers at Greenfields Special School for disabled children and also helps out teaching technology to pensioners through Age UK. She is involved in fundraising activities through Air Cadets for RAFA and the Poppy Appeal amongst others and was also chair of her schools charities committee for three years raising thousands of pounds for projects at home and in Africa, where the school sponsored a Rwandan School Rugby Club. For her efforts she was voted most valuable student for two years and won a memorial prize for work in the community. Appointed Lord Lieutenant's Cadet in 2010 she assisted the Lord Lieutenant in his duties escorting Royalty and also acted as Mayor of South Tyneside's Cadet too attending Civic duties. She has volunteered to go to Africa for one year from August 2012 instead of going to University so she can help make a difference in a community in poverty either teaching English or caring in a hospital or orphanage. She is sporty too having represented her Air Cadet Wing in netball and hockey and is a Junior Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. She also has her Gold DoE and helps younger peers in school and through cadets in their quest for DoE success. She coaches sports and also teaches younger cadets aerodynamics and navigational skills. Zoë attended a Gliding Scholarship attaining her Silver Wings by flying solo. Zoë is very much a caring, selfless, unassuming young lady.
