Bill's nomination story

Bill (82) volunteers in an extraordinary range of local community activities every day of his life - from helping with the day to day running of Bomarsund Junior Cricket Club (also Club Chairman) to participating in church activities (serves as church Elder). At Newbiggin Golf Club he has inspired many young golfers and he organised Junior Competitions for 10 years. Club captain twice he is currently Club President. His good works enrich the local community (much of which is in a socially deprived area); he was a school governor for 30 years and has been a member of the Northumberland Playing Fields Association for over 50 years. Bill has spent 25 years volunteering on the management committee of the Citizens Advice Bureau. In his working career Bill's role as a senior social welfare officer for the Mining Industry was to develop welfare and leisure facilities for miners and their families, plus providing a service to miners with significant disabilities, and he continues to maintain links with the organisation in retirement. He is recognised and respected by so many people in the community and is always happy to help. Never seeking an accolade, Bill takes pleasure in watching those he has inspired achieve and participate. The honour Bill would feel if offered this opportunity would be a fitting tribute to an amazing man. ......organised Junior COACHING (not competitions) for 10 years.......
