Will's nomination story

Will has been a hero in holding the training of physical educators together at Exeter University. Over the past ten years he has been inspirational to hundred of new young teachers. This is the critical work force for motivating and educating youngsters about activity and sport for health and also inspiring them towards sporting achievement. At a time when there have been serious cuts in standards in preparation of PE teachers, Will has sacrificed himself to influence around 80 trainees per year. He is a keen fit sportman himself, a native New Zealander and is just a brilliant guy who all the students love. He has recently been awarded a national teaching fellowship award and the University of Exeter Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Janice Kay said: Will Katene is an inspiring and innovative teacher who enjoys the respect of his students, his peers and the senior management of the University. Will embodies research-led teaching: his research shapes both how and what he teaches. He is passionately committed to excellence and has high expectations of himself and his students. In the seminar room and in his professional activities, Will acts as a role model for others
