William's nomination story

William is an inspirational young man. He was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 6 and with dyslexia at 9. He is always positive, happy, supportive to others, hard working and a pleasure to be with. He has never let diabetes get in his way, never complains despite over 12500 injections. He is a Type 1 youth ambassador (JDRF) increasing awareness of type 1 at school and elsewhere. He is an accomplished 29er dinghy sailor (1 step before the Olympic 49er) and the Junior Rep at the local sailing club. This means his represents the views of the junior sailors to the sailing committee. He has achieved Bronze Duke of Edinbugh award and displayed excellent team skills assisting others within his group to pass. He teaches other children in line and quad skating regularly having achieved level 9 in figurative skating himself. Last year he completed a marathon on roller blades in aid of the JDRF and plans on repeating this again this year. At school he has been voted onto the school council so acts as a liason between pupils and teachers. He works very hard in his studies regularly securing A and A* grades and passed Astronomy GCSE two years early with an A grade. William never seeks recognition for his many achievements, always does he very best, is incredibly considerate of others and absolutely deserves the opportunity to be a torchbearer.
