Wendy Mason has recently retired having devoted her career to Primary Education, finishing her career as Head Teacher at Netherton Junior and Infant School where she was an invaluable and well-respected member of the community for nearly14 years. She has made a significant contribution to the education of children in Wakefield and has always fully supported the Healthy Schools initiatives and school sports. Being a World Record Channel swimmer herself, she has encouraged and inspired children to develop their sporting abilities both at school and in local sports organisations. I am nominating my Mum not only because of her dedication to the community but also because it would give her the opportunity to be part of the Olympic Games, which sadly was not possible in 1976 at the height of her sporting career because there were no long distance swimming events.
