He has served the community as church treasurer of the Methodist Church for 37 years, and he helps drive to bring people to the local Day Centre He was a County Referee for 30 years. In the past he has worked with youth in the Boys Brigade, been a school governor, and a blood donor. George is a quiet man who does not boast about his achievements, but is looked up to by the people in the community. To choose George to carry the torch would be an honour for him, but would also honour the work of those who never speak of what they do, but quietly, day by day, are seen to make life better for others.
