Wally's nomination story

This man is an inspiration to generations of people within the city of wolverhampton and beyond - he won the West Midlands Unsung Hero award for all his hard to work to community. He has volunteered for over 50 years to his local community in swimming but not just teaching children and adults to swim but inspired them to be active as family. This is not just physically he has encouraged and supported parents and carers, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles to volunteer themselves as coaches, officials, treasurers, fund raisers ,on the desk, safeguarding officers or just to stand there and say well done to children and adults. He has taught within our schools and raised the standard of swimmers in our city, he as encouraged teenage girls who hate activity to get back in the pool and reengaged difficult boys. For over 50 years Wally has been known and loved by the community we can think of no better way of saying well done Wally - you are a true hero and thank you by giving him the chance to shine by carrying the torch- generations will watch and believ ethat they are now part of that legacy and also carry the torch with him in their heart!
