Carrying the Flame through
Carrying the Flame on
Walter's nomination story

Walter deserves to carry the Flame because of his fantastic efforts and achievements with regard to raising deaf awareness in his local community through his voluntary work with our charity, Action on Hearing Loss. In the past 3 years, he has delivered 34 talks and events on deaf-related issues in colleges and other venues. Many people have benefitted from his advice and expertise and he always receives excellent feedback (often resulting in donations to our charity from the grateful groups as well).

The feedback from just two of these groups speaks volumes about his amazing contribution:

Civil Service Retirement Fellowship:

'His talk was both informative and entertaining this, together with his knowledge and advice on where to get help for anyone with hearing problems, was deemed most useful by many of our members.'

Northern Regional College, Newtownabbey:

'Sincere appreciation to Walter (and Bobby) who really engaged the students with an interactive, fun and thought-provoking session. Their input was much appreciated and their passion and commitment to raising awareness was evident throughout. The students reported that the Action on Hearing Loss presentation was their favourite input of the day'.

For 2 years running, Walter has been a winner in our Volunteer Awards scheme.

Kathy McCann, Walter's manager, says: 'Walter is a real gentleman and a great ambassador for Action on Hearing Loss'. CR
