Virginia Prifti lost her 8 year old son to a rare genetic disease several years ago. Go give her focus afterwards, she decided to raise money to fund the installation of a roundabout well in an African school. Roundabout wells, also known as Playpumps, are basic children's roundabouts that power a pump connected to a borehole. As the children play on the roundabout they pump water up to a header tank in a purpose built tower. The water can then benefit as many as 2000 people. Virginia started by running jumble sales and other small fundraising ventures. She had to put a lot of work towards raising enough to fund the first well, but when she had achieved her target she decided to use her experience and contacts to see whether she could scrape together enough to fund another. She has had donations from children, schools, her local community, companies and even private individuals she has never met. Virginia kept going and is currently building well number 82. Each one has a picture of her son, Laurence, on the water tower. My son's name is 'Lawrence'. My charity is called 'Lawrence's Roundabout Well Appeal' (www.lrwa.co.uk) As at August 2011 we have raised nearly £600k which is enough for 79 roundabout wells
