As the first female chair of the British Athletics` Writers Association I campaigned back in 2003 to bring the Olympics to London. I was already the first woman staff sports writer to be appointed on a tabloid in Britain. London 2012 will be the fourth summer Games I have covered as a sports writer. In March 2007 I was diagnosed with secondary (ie uncurable) cancer. The primary tumour was never found but following a successful course of chemotherapy I continue to take drugs to control the disease and have have been in remission for almost five years - one for each of the Olympic rings. I was a member of Breast Cancer Care`s secondary cancer task-force which successfully lobbied the Government in 2008 for improved care and life expectancy statistics. In 2009 I raised around £6,500 for Cancer Research UK - walking 5K with Paula Radcliffe. I am also a patient governor representative for the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
