Victoria's nomination story

Over the last 2.5 years Vicky has been supporting the Bingham Penguins Swimming Club on a weekly basis, a club specifically designed for developing swimmers with disabilities. Over the years her role in the club has varied from supporting swimmers in the water (including supporting a 5 year old boy with a physical disability and has achieved some great skills with him, including raising his own self esteem, confidence and moveability in the water), photographer, mentor and most recently recruiting new volunteers for the club. When the club was short of support in the adult sessions it was Vicky that came to the rescue, despite only being only 18 herself, and she now supports an adult female with a severe physical disability in the water on a weekly basis, again Vicky has excelled in sharing her enthusiasm and support and the swimmer has grown in confidence over the last year working with Vicky. This is all in addition to the endless hours she gives to her own school to help support sport sessions and festivals. All this effort has lead Vicky to win young volunteer of the year at both her local district awards and the county sports awards in 2011. She has also been nominated nominated for Outstanding Contribution by a Young Adult at the ASA Aquaforce awards.
