Val's nomination story

Valerie sadly lost her husband 20 years ago. In an effort to ensure that something positive resulted from his death she set about fund raising for Cancer Research. She has achieved beyond her expectations by running 20 marathons from a background of a previous non-runner. Her physical efforts have required hours of training during which she has inspired many others to participate in exercise and realise their potential. She is a true ambassador to the sport of running and an inspiration to her running club, Newquay Road Runners. By running these marathons she has raised over 100 thousand pounds for Cancer Research. The majority of this has been sponsorship and donations from individuals in the local community who have been inspired by her dedication and desire to see the positive in life. As an individual she demonstrates great humility and acts as a wonderful role model to others. Bearing the Olympic torch would be a fitting reward for her efforts to help others. She would feel this was a great honour to the community and the memory of her husband.
