Tony's nomination story

My Dad, Tony , was a cross-country runner for Somerset. In 1948 & 1950 he was cross country champion for Somerset in the South West Championships, and in 1949 he came second to British and Commonwealth champion A.H. Chivers. Representing Somerset at inter-county competitions took him to run at Salford in Manchester. Dad was selected to carry the torch for Somerset in the 1948 Olympics, however shortly before the event he suffered appendicitis and was ruled unfit by Doctors. He was extremely disappointed and, despite reassuring everyone he could still carry the torch, he was not permitted to do so. He is also very active in the local community. He was an Instructor in the local Civil Defence, served on Wiveliscombe Parish Council for over 20 years, was President of the Wiveliscombe Horticultural Society and also on the Regional Egg Marketing Board Committee. Please fulfill his lost dream.
