Tom set up and manages the charity, FoodCycle. FoodCycle volunteers cook every Sunday at a community centre in Bromley-by-Bow for the local needy. Tom and his charity FoodCycle take food which would have been thrown away by East London shops and cooks it into nutritious three course meals in the Centre. The 50 volunteers who work with FoodCycle come from UCL, Birkbeck and in jobs around London. FoodCycle has fed on average 20 people a week a three course meal, and created a real community atmosphere which had been lacking in the area. In order to fund FoodCycles activities Tom also organised funding through a charity dinner to raise both awareness and money at a Hammersmith chef college. Through receiving funding from various sources Tom ensured that FoodCycle had enough money to pay for all expenses incurred and to pay for all expenses for the whole of next year.
