Tom's nomination story

Tom Hacker Lost his mum to cancer at the age of 13 and his dad two years ago. Instead of being bitter and angry at the world he decided to turn his grief into something positive and set about trying to raise money for cancer research. He cycled solo from John O'Groats to Land's End and raised nearly GBP10,000 in the process, a figure that keeps growing every time someone hears his story. He knew when he got to the end his parents wouldn't be there to tell him how proud they were. Thankfully for most people under the age of 25 that's a difficult situation to contemplate. Tom Hacker made that incredible journey knowing it wouldn't bring his parents back but hoping that no one else would have to go through what he has been through. To his friends he is a modern day hero and someone we are honored to know, therefore we think the whole nation should get to know this very special man. .
