Tina is part of a fundraising team for the Little Princess Trust, set up to provide wigs for children with cancer or going through cancer treatments. It started a few years ago when Tina's cousin at the age of 2 was diagnosed with alopecia, something needed to be done when the parents noticed a drastic change in her personality - Emily did not want to go out to play with her friends or join in school activities for the fear of being picked on. The trouble was, that there was not a wig suitable, as Emily had eczema and the NHS's wigs made her itch, so the Little Princesses Trust was born to raise enough money for authentic hair pieces which means that the child can feel 'normal' again. The hair can be washed, the child can go to the hairdressers to have the latest styles and swim etc. Each wig costs in the region of £3000.
Tina's hands on approach involves actually going to shops and businesses explaining the work of the charity and encouraging the community to pull together as a whole to raise as much money as possible , and also raise awareness of the importance of this little known charity. This takes up a lot of Tina's time, at least 3 to 4 hours a week all done with a smile.
Tina has also set in place a bi-annual event which is well supported and looked forward to by the local community. It is well thought out as being bi-annual it does not put to much pressure on local businesses but is often enough to keep the community spirit alive and active.
