Timothy's nomination story

Tim is a veteran Dorset athlete,and a shining example to inspire the interest of youth towards sport and athletics. Tim is a two times Gold Medal winner at World Police and Fire Games (current G.M. holder and competing again this year, 2011. See link to WPFG at end). For over 30 years he has inspired local youth as a volunteer athletics coach. He is a former west country 3-counties ABA boxing champion, ABA coach, and former Captain of Weymouth Amateur Boxing Club. He is an endurance athlete, cycled Land's End to John o'Groats; Kayaked the English Channel; ran Chesil Beach (35 miles return). Tim is the coach and winning team member of Weymouth Dragon Boat Race; He ran 6 London Marathons; numerous triathlons, is a mountaineer and orienteer. Tim recently retired after 27 years in public service, rising to Assistant Governor and Head of Custody in H.M Prison Service, during which time he spent 17 years as P.E. instructor and Manager, working with the resettlement of offenders through sports and recreation, helping the rehabillitated prisoners gain vocational awards, while interacting with youth groups in activities and camps such as soccer and orienteering. He is a Committee member of Portland Rowing Club, and organises local GIG rowing. Born and bred in Portland, Dorset, Tim has drawn media coverage of his sports and athletics adventures, raising the profile of amateur athletics locally, nationally and internationally. An exemplary nominee. GO TIM, GO!
