Blair's nomination story

At the age of 5, Blair was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes and is insulin dependent. Like many young people who develop Diabetes at a young age, he has learned to live with his condition. Whilst his condition is managed by injecting insulin, nevertheless it is a life threatening condition if not managed properly. Blair manages his condition through a healthy balanced diet and exercise. He has participated in sport from a very young age, from swimming to currently participating in football, hockey and cycling. He has played football for his school, Ellon Academy, and both Formartin and Ellen Boys Clubs. He also plays hockey for Ellon Meadows Men's Hockey Team and has played for Aberdeen &District Hockey Club both indoor and outdoor. He is a very keen and accomplished cyclist and is a member of Ythan Cycling Club. He has been involved with Diabetes UK and has participated in activities weeks, also acting as a mentor to other younger people. He will participate in the charity London to Paris Cycle in September to raise funds for Diabetes UK. He has supported other young people with diabetes who attend his school Ellon Academy, sharing his experiences to help them deal with the practical and emotional challenges that diabetes presents in achieving normality in day to day living. Academically, Blair is a high achiever and given his interest in his own condition, it is his ambition to have a career in medicine. He is a fine young man and I commend him to you.Formartine Boys Club Ellon Meadows Boys Club North District Hockey, not Aberdeen and district I now Play for Aberdeen Grammar Hockey Club not Ellon Mens Hockey Club
