Tom's nomination story

Tom is a fantastic role model and just the person to represent all that is good about young people living in Knowsley. Tom is a hard-working A Level student studying at Knowsley Community College who is the perfect example of an 'active citizen' - someone who works hard for himself and his community. Tom is a Student Governor and a member of the Student Council and does a brilliant job in representing the views of his fellow students whilst coping with the demands of his own studies in PE, Psychology and Statistics. He is a keen sportsman and also volunteers at a local youth centre for people with special needs, helping them to organise sporting and social activities each week. Tom is determined to pursue a career in teaching and has applied to university to train as a primary teacher with a specialism in PE. While at school he was Head Boy and Young Ambassasor for sport - an excellent role model who displayed all the Olympic and Paralympic values. Tom was involved in establishing the school house system in which all houses were named after famous Olympians/paralympians. He was also chosen to make a film about 'being inspired' which involved interviewing others who had inspired them to get into sport. He then worked as part of a team with an external company to edit film which was shown at the NW 2012 Conference, where Tom introduced it on stage and it was very well received. It is Tom's dream to become a teacher and, in Tom's words, "inspire the next generation".
