Terry's nomination story

Terry has overcome many obstacles in his live due to his deafness, leaving school at the age of 14 with no qualification, he rose to become the first Deaf Series Editor of the BBC programme See Hear, and was awarded an Honary degree from Wolverhampton University for his relentless campaigning for Deaf rights and the recognition of British Sign Language. Has improved the lives of Deaf people not only here in the UK but World wide and was on the Board of Directors at the European Union of the Deaf as Vice President improving the lives of over 10 million Deaf people.within the EU He ran the London Marathon and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro at the ripe age of 50 to raise money (£4000) for Deaf women and breast cancer. Was instrumental in getting Deaf children who had languished in children's homes as un-adoptable and unplaceable to be fostered and adopted into other family lives. This was recognised by the late Princess Diane when she launched the Deaf Children in Care project. Terry has always strived to improve the lives of deaf people who disability is unseen and under developed and unemployed He is also a Governor at the Royal School for the Deaf Margate and a superb role model to these children who suffer from multiple disabilities No matter what life brings he always has a smile and a sense of humour that is so uplifting and lightens the day Terry has been elected to serve on the World Federation of the Deaf board WFD which represents over 137 countries
