Terry Hughes

Terry, a founding member of the vibrant and highly successful Holywell Amateur Swimming Club (founded in 1970), is still coaching 5 times a week even in his 70s. No other coach's voice can penetrate the water to offer encouragement in a race like Terry nor emulate Terry's genuine pleasure at the achievements of all the swimmers. He takes great pride in swimmers who win races, but he is never happier than when one of his charges swims a personal best and it is Terry's enthusiasm that really helps them perform. The bespectacled gent on poolside who always has a boiled sweet or toffee to hand, not to mention spare goggles, swimming costumes and hats, is the essence of Holywell Swimming Club. His great gift is to encourage children to believe in themselves and give them confidence for the wider world
