Sylvia Sergeant

Sylvia has been involved with Chelmsford Athletic Club for 30 years coaching young athletes and judging at field events; she qualified as an Athletics Coach and Field Judge whilst still working. As a Team Manager, she spends most weekends at club matches and has brought several youngsters to county and national level, often travelling to support them. Sylvia retired as Head of P.E. at Chelmsford County High School in 2006 and still returns as a coaching volunteer. She also gives athletic masterclasses in local Primary and Secondary Schools. Sylvia is committed to encouraging the young people she coaches, always praising the slightest improvement, and inspiring them to do their best. She is especially patient with any who have a disability and they respond to this patience. Sylvia never seeks praise or thanks and truly is an unsung hero deserving the honour to carry the Olympic Flame.
