11 years ago Susan gained hockey coaching qualifications so that she could run hockey sessions on a Saturday morning at the nearest pitch she could find vacant. It was in a market town, 5 miles away. About 20 children turned up whilst her 3 children aged below 8 joined in or were minded by another parent. Now, over 60 children still come every single week. Some have passed through to regular club, county, regional and England junior selection. She gives her time freely training all ages during the week and every single weekend. She organises matches, tournaments, country exchanges, interschool games. She is passionate about children having fun in sport and achieving their potential giving them sufficient opportunities and support from those with expertise around them. She gives time every day in different local schools teaching children about the benefit of sport and exercise in a fun and engaging way. She is sought after by many schools and clubs for her dedication, enthusiasm, energy and sheer determination to get the best out of children and for children. I have witnessed children who had very little self esteem, and no interest in sports, being put on a pedestal in front of 50 other children, not because they were brilliant exponents of the sport, but because they 'had a go' and tried. Susan waves her magic over those who do well wherever their starting point is. She makes all those around her of any age feel special. I hope she can be made to feel special too
