Susan's nomination story

Sue Marley is an inspiration to us all. Our daughter Becci was born with Cystic Fybrosis requiring 24 hour / 7 days a week care by way of medication and physiotherapy. Despite this Sue embarked on a tireless journey to raise awareness of this debilitating illness. In her bid to raise money for the CF Trust she has completed the Great North Run 5 times. She has organised and participated in numerous fund raising activities including the 3 national peaks walk, sponsored swim, 24 hour badminton games, abseiling and charity cricket matches to name a few. Her efforts, along with Becci's, have raised over £10,000.00 for CF research. Although proud to be awarded an MBE in 2004, for her fund raising activities and a distinguished career in the Civil Service, she regards a greater reward would be to find a cure for CF. In 2009 Becci sadly lost her fight against CF aged just 27. Nursing an overwhelming loss and heartache Sue has continued to help and offer her support to others in a similar position. We have set up a satellite charity in Becci's memory which has raised a further £5000.00 for CF research.
