Sue's nomination story

In a career spanning 35 years, Sue has thaught PE to over 7,500 school students in Leicestershire inspiring them to enjoy sport, whatever their ability. In addition to giving her own time to run Hockey, Netball, Athletics and Gymnastics teams, she has most recently established Gartree Against Poverty, raising her students awareness of both local and global issues. Her students at Gartree High School have joined the national campaigns Make Poverty History and Operation Christmas Child, supported the local Rotary Club providing Aqua Boxes and raised thousands of pounds to build classrooms in Kenya, wells in Cambodia and funding local charities such as Open Hands. The achievements of her students have been widely recognised with many receiving Diana Awards. In turn, Sue's work has been recognised by her students in the Leicester Mercury, where they simply described her as amazing .
