Struan Ferguson

Struan became a volunteer in our Palliative Care Day Unit at the beginning of this year. Since then he has proved to be a very inspirational and dedicated young man. With a maturity beyond his years, we have noted the excellent and effective communication skills he uses with a wide range of people; patients, staff and volunteers. Always respectful of others needs, working hard with a selfless and compassionate nature, never afraid to undertake any task ,which is always completed thouroughly ,and in time. Struan is a calm and understanding listener. His level-headed approach to life is combined with a sence of humour which is always appropriate and brightens the days of patients who are undergoing the most difficult time of thier lives. Struan has many skills, including a good knowledge of IT and music, these have been used to enhance what can be offered to patients, both therapeutically as well as for entertainment. The patients, staff and volunteers of the unit feel that Struan is unique in his ability to adapt to ever changing situations as well as the manner in which he deals with the stressful issues which are encountered in such a centre, Struan has made a difference to the lives of those within the unit and we believe that he deserves his own moment to shine.
