Stewart's nomination story

Stewart Ross has worked in sport for nearly 20 years, making a significant impact on higher education, local community and performance sport at regional and national level. As Director of Sport, he has transformed the quality of sporting experience at three Universities. Most recently he secured £20 million investment in sport at University of Leeds, creating significant opportunities for students, staff and community. He also led the establishment of an Olympic & Paralympic programme which sought to maximise the impact of the 2012 Games. Stewart is chairman of Sport Leeds, the Strategic Partnership for Sport in the city, leading professional and amateur organisations in the delivery of sport & recreation. He is currently a board director of West Yorkshire Sport.

Stewart received an 'outstanding contribution to university sport' award from UCS (University and College Sport), after over 10 years service including roles as executive member, vice chair and chair.
