Carrying the Flame on
Steven's nomination story

Steven set up Academy Juniors FC, a girls only football club in Bolton in 2008. He volunteers for the club for about 20 hours per week in the roles of Chairman, Child Welfare Officer and Under 14 coach, and visits as many schools as he can in Bolton to spread the word about AJs. With around 150 girls, aged 4-18 it is now the largest girls football club in Bolton. Steven wants to make the club accessible to every girl in Bolton and is working hard to achieve that! There are 2 FA Centres of Excellence in the area and many girls who aren't selected for that can be disadvantaged in not receiving the associated quality and quantity of training. Steven has made AJs into an unofficial centre of excellence, offering all of the benefits, with open access to girls of any age or ability. Carrying the Olympic flame would be a great boost for the club and girls football in Bolton.
