I would like to nominate my colleague Steven Hynd for his hard work, commitment and compassion for the children at Aberlour Children's Home in Kingseat. The home provides short breaks and respite for families who have children and young people with learning disabilities from babies, to 18. The support for children and young people includes helping them manage their anxieties and reduce behaviours, support with helping them develop their full potential in a warm and caring environment.
Stevie has been working closely with the home since 2008 and with his good nature and rapport he has many colleagues he can call upon for support. Some of the work he has undertaken includes:
. Raising funds to buy and hand deliver Christmas presents each year.
. Transforming the garden with decking, a playhouse and trampoline, bought with matched funds from the Group.
. Cleans the guttering and cuts grass.
. Paints and decorates.
. Buying and delivering Easter Eggs.
. Buying garden equipment.
. Raises money through dress down days, car boot sales, cash & carry service and bake days.
. Lastly and more importantly than all the gifts, he visits the home offering support, friendship and genuine kindness.
Last Christmas Stevie became a cash and carry service, raising over £900 to buy the children their Christmas presents. His spare room at home was over run with goodies, just as well he has a good natured wife!
