Steve has coached the mens and womens rugby union team throughout his time in Bangor as an undergraduate. As a postgraduate he has continued to dedicate his time (30+ hours a week, with at least 4 days a week without fail) over the last 2 1/2 years improving student and community involvement in scuba diving as well as in raising safety and benefitting others through training and issuing over 400 individual certifications all on a voluntary basis. He has created and driven opportunities for scores of individuals and groups to experience countless activities including environmental initiatives such as beach clean ups across the whole North Wales coast including persons with physical and learning difficulties. Recieving double University Blues for his own sporting acheivements Steve was also named Bangor University Sportsman of The Year for 2011. He was also recognised locally with the High Sheriffs Award 2011 for his community involvement and also nationally as The British Universities and Colleges Sports (BUCS) Volunteer of The Year for his contribution to sports in Higher Education. Being a Torch bearer would be fitting for such a role model in this community.
