Steve trained in boatbuilding and design in 1985 before working at a local sailmakers. He then gave 12 years service as boatman for the Royal Marines and Instructor for the sailing club before joining Trout's Boatyard in Topsham in 2002. Such is his charisma and expertise, he also previously made the grade for dinghy sailing Olympic training. Steve is inspirational in the community, for over 17 years he has been an RNLI volunteer and holds the post of Deputy Coxswain on the Exmouth lifeboat, he has risked his life selflessly to save others while working fulltime and raising a family. In addition he finds the time to run or cycle to work (over 20 miles per day) as well as being successful in Triathalons, Ironman competitions and the London Marathon. Many of our community wholeheartedly support this nomination to see Steve given the honour of carrying the Olympic torch.
