I am heavily involved with tennis in the local community. I am league secretary and run the leagues in the county of Essex. I run postal knockout competitions in the Southend & District area. I am club captain of Westcliff Lawn Tennis Club. WLTC is a community tennis club. I am a qualified tennis coach.
County - I have been running the county tennis leagues since 1999. I look after 33 seperate divisions (mens & ladies) across the summer & winter months. Over 400 players throughout Essex participate in the leagues. I am also a qualified referee and oversee various events throughout the annual calender.
District - I run postal tournaments for local clubs in South East Essex. Approximately 200 players enter the events each year. I run 16 different events culminating in two finals days (Summer & Winter) where I arrange umpires, catering, prizes etc. I have been running these events since 1994.
Club - I have been club captain at my community club since 1989. Duties include arranging tournaments for members, selecting teams for matches, overseeing committee meetings, liaison with groundman, cleaning staff. I assist with a LTA annual junior tournament where over 125 players participate.
Coaching - I have been a qualified coach for 22 years. At weekends I help arrange a coaching programme for local youngsters. I give free coaching to various junior members.
I spend about 25 hours per week (outside of work) on various tennis activities. Administering the leagues is an ongoing task as matches are played throughout the year. Result cards are submitted to me daily and I keep the leagues updated online so players are aware of league positions.
I also referee a high profile tennis tournament in Penzance every year. This involves over 100 hours of planning and running the event. Feedback for the event is excellent with numbers increasing year on year.
