My Dad, Steve Wilson is inspirational to me and others for several reasons. He has just completed the London marathon in aid of the NSPCC and raised over £2000 in the process. He is not a runner and did it just for the good of a charity putting himself through the pain and dedication of training for a great cause.
However the main reason I believe my dad is inspirational and should represent the country running with the Olympic torch is simple he is a police response officer. I know to most people this doesn't seem much but please let me explain. My dad leaves home to go to work in Plymouth at all hours of the day and night and has no idea of what he will face. He works in one of the most challenging areas of Plymouth and regularly comes into conflict with members of the public who are drunk, fuelled with drugs or are in possession of weapons. He is expected to sort out any situation by putting his own wellbeing to the back of his mind and he does this without hesitation. He doesn't get paid a heros salary for what he does and most of the public don't realise what police officers carry out on a daily basis.
Recently my Dad and his colleagues entered a house that had the kitchen on fire to apprehend and man with a baseball bat. These are the things that the public don't get to see and this is why my Dad is my hero. I would be extremely proud to see him run in the relay as I believe for what he does on a daily basis he deserves a place. Many thanks Ellen Wilson CR
