Over 10 years and 1200 callouts, and counting, Steve has saved many lives. Recovery from his own heart attack inspired Steve to train as a volunteer *LIVES Responder, having previously driven his LIVES Responder wife Jenny, to some calls. Mobilised following 999 calls alongside an ambulance, Steve attends various calls from respiratory difficulty, falls and cardiac arrests at home to road traffic incidents, the first medically trained person on scene. Steve is now one of very few volunteers trained to level 4 able to attend Cat A calls, the most life threatening. He administers life saving drugs and pain relief, and uses nebulisers and blood monitor kits. Located within their own communities, volunteer Responders attend within minutes, stabilising patients, reassuring loved ones, until paramedics arrive. This early intervention is the difference between life and death, especially across Lincolnshire's rural, isolated communities. Steve has helped several rural communities start up volunteer LIVES groups, trains new responders, supporting their development. Steve gives talks on LIVES, his passion and gentle humour shining through, inspiring others. He is a true ambassador for LIVES. Well thought of in Market Rasen area, as a very active volunteer (and racecourse stable manager), Steve's nomination would meet with widespread approval Footnote: * for more information on LIVES (Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service). see www.lives-responders.co.uk.
