Scouting has had a huge influence of my life and I participated in overseas trips to Kenya and Sri Lanka when I was a Scout myself. These trips were designed to help the local communities (Kenya we build a scout hall for disabled scouts and Sri Lanka we worked with UNICEF building wells and latrines). Scouting provides all youngsters with the opportunity to follow a structured programme which covers a wide range of activities. Whilst the time involved in planning and running meetings is considerable there is no better reward than seeing youngsters trying out new activities or completing the requirements of a challenge award or proficiency badge.
The Olympics being held in the UK is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be part of a great event. My Cubs will be attending an 'Olympic' themed camp in the summer of 2012 and for me to be able to carry the torch as part of the relay would be a great experience which I can recount to the youngsters.
