Steph's nomination story

Stephanie (25) has worked since her teenage years as a respite carer and she truly carries the Olympian spirit in her heart when we meet her during the working day. Every evening after a busy day at work she takes care of twins, who are suffering from Quadriplegia, a form of Cerebral Palsy affecting their limbs. Her dedication to bringing care to others in her spare time sets her apart; reminding us daily what one can achieve when living in the spirit of a true Olympian. Both boys are in wheelchairs and cannot use the toilet, requiring their pads to be changed every 2-3 hours. She helps with their stretches and gets them into special sleep suits while turning them every two hours during the night. She dedicates one full weekend every month to their wellbeing and has given up her holidays to give their foster parents the help they need. By helping their carers in her spare time and by being such a committed colleague during her daily work, Stephanie shows how every one of us can exceed their personal best by bringing the Spirit of Olympia into the daily lives of others. 150 words are unable to do this inspirational young woman justice but we believe that she is a fantastic bearer of the Olympic fire. By carrying it through our streets and neighbourhoods her story can show how every one of us can shine in their personal life by igniting the light of humankind through ones daily acts of kindness.
