Steph's nomination story

Steph's giving spirit means that at the age of 17,rather than just looking after herself, she is already using her opportunities to inspire other young people. Steph gives her time sharing sporting and other skills that she has experienced and enjoyed:- 1. After learning dinghy sailing she has spent her time becoming an instructor in order to volunteer at the AYAC and is teaching children the joys and skills of sailing. 2. From her dance class experience she is passing on her ability in a local group enabling ordinary youngsters to work together in the performance arts. 3. At sixth form college (2010) Steph participated in a charity walk for a local hospice. In 2009 she trained for her bronze Duke of Edingburgh Award (unfinished due to a minor sports injury at the time, making her miss her cohort.) 4. The Guide Jubilee Year saw Steph in Thailand helping local children in their schools both painting walls and teaching games and songs. Whilst at home at secondary school, she and a friend set up a school sports council. If Steph was chosen as a Torchbearer I know it would boost her confidence and support her instinct to inspire and make a difference to others in both life and sport.
