I've known Stan for 45 years. His enthusiasm for, and involvement in, sport, both coaching and competing, has never wavered in all that time. He is a National and International Judo Champion (you can 'Google' his name, and read of all his successes and medals). He has twice won the Herefordshire & Worcestershire 'Sportsman of the Year' award.
Stan will be 66 years old this week, and he has continually promoted fitness, and all the best aspects of competitiveness, throughout his long and illustrious judo career. He still competes in Judo Masters Contests at World level.
Stan represents all the best characteristics of a sportsman, both in his own life, and in his encouragement and coaching of other sports participants.
Stan volunteered to work at the Olympic Games as soon as it was confirmed that London would be the 2012 venue, and he is looking forward enormously to assisting at the Excel Centre.
I consider that Stan would be an ideal Olympic Torch Bearer - he is super-fit, professional, and a credit to sport and the spirit of the Olympic Games.
Thank you for considering my nomination of Stan Cantrill.
