Simon has had cerebral palsy from birth and is a wheelchair user. He has an amazing brain having gained several GCSE's, 2 'A' Levels and a First Class Honours Degree at University. He has full use of only one finger with which he types on his computer keyboard and operates his voice synthesiser and now works as a full time volunteer, 5 days a week, in the Head Office of a large UK Charity. Apart from dealing with his own workload he helps his colleagues with their IT problems. As the office staff is mainly female he also acts as an 'agony uncle' listening to all their problems! He is widely known in the area of London in which he resides and though he lives in a residential home he is quite independent and will go out and about himself into shops and restaurants etc. He has a wide circle of friends and everyone who comes into contact with him is amazed by his unstinting good humour at all times despite his severe physical handicaps. Furthermore he runs a small greeting card business the profits from which go to make the lives of the residents who also live at his carehome a little better. He would be a good ambassador for disabled people in the UK and would be thrilled to be allowed to carry the Torch, mounted on his wheelchair, if only for a few yards.
