Sheila's nomination story

Sheila is an absolute inspiration as she has donated 2/3 of her liver to her daughter Dr Susan Filsell, who was dangerously ill with a liver condition which necessitated a transplant. Only the 2nd operation of its kind in Scotland it was very high risk, using ground breaking surgery, giving Susan the best chance possible of life. Despite Susan's significant health problems over years, they have given inspirational talks to community groups raising awareness of the importance of organ donation. They use their personal experience to champion the cause. Their talks move people to the extent that organ donation registration is increasing in this area. They have also taken part in a national campaign involving television and newspaper publicity. A retired teacher, Sheila is an active member of her church, showing a real love, concern and support for her family, friends and community. We understand that Susan has already been nominated and it would be wonderful if this inspirational mother and daughter could share the torch bearing as they are sharing a liver. Please give them a moment to shine.
