My younger brother Shaun Malone is a true inspiration to everyone. He previously performed for 3 years in Billy Elliot on the west end as Michael and has acted on TV alongside stars such as Robson Green and Pauline Quirk. In August 2010 he developed sinusitus, there was a rare complication and the infection spread quickly to his brain. He was rushed into surgery and was fighting for his life in Royal Manchester Childrens Hospital intensive care unit. After having several operations he was finally clear of infection and brought out of his induced coma. Unfortunately Shaun woke up unable to move his left side of the body. His sheer determination and strong will power has enabled him to keep a positive outlook and aim to get back on his feet, each day he would have physio and work towards walking again. After a total of 6 months in hospital i am extremely proud to say Shaun walked out of hospital. He is unable to walk long distances as he becomes tired as he is still on his long road to recovery but each day he never fails to surprise us with something new he has achieved. He is such a strong and determined person who is so happy to still be here with us. He took part on ITV's children's hospital to help raise awareness of complications of sinusitus and is working with the hospital charity to raise funds for a portable CT scanner. I know he would love to be part of such an amazing event and will treasure this moment as he has worked hard to master the art of walking.
