Shane's nomination story

I would like to nominate my older brother because he has always inspired me throughout my life. At the age of 10 he was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and this has never stopped him from completeing a grueling training program as well as a Degree in sport and exercise coaching and a Masters in strength and conditioning. Shane is the very explanation of hard work, he has done nothing but push himself and his love for swimming has never ended. Despite shane trying so hard in swimming pushing himself , devising his own training sessions in the gym and having the core strength of a king, hes just never quite made it. Shane has supported me throughout my journey and gave me the strength to take a gap year from school and try to go to an American university. I am now at Washington State University on a full rowing scholarship and although I am doing everything that he deserves to do he has continued to to support me. Shane helps anyone that he can and everybody that meets him loves him, he has also inspired many younger people as well as completing many hours of voluntary service linked with the Sport University North East England project at Teesside Univerity. This project aims to help socially excluded groups back into society through sport. Equally he has helped youngster with potential who have the determination but lack the coaching expertise to succeed. Shane has taught me that I can do whatever I want to do in life, I just have to work for it. As he says, 'just do it' :)
