Shanaze's nomination story

Shanaze Reade is a unique young lady that has fought with dedication, determination and heart to get to the pinnacle of her sport. The route to the top has never been easy.

From growing up in a single parent family with limited privileges in Crewe, to finding herself on the ground after a daring move in the finishing stages of the Olympic BMX final in Beijing, Shanaze has made it her habit to not dwell on such problems, but fight to overcome them.

As a 22-year-old she has subsequently climbed to the very top of the cycling world, fuelled by an amazing inner determination and discipline.

Despite her age, Shanaze has won 6 world titles across both BMX and track cycling.

She has worked tirelessly mentoring young people looking to sport for both support and enjoyment and also with the Cadbury Community Programme and the Youth Sport Trust.
