"Sean is an outstanding teacher leader who works in an urban "turnaround" school that has been under-performing for several years. Despite numerous changes in school leadership and lots of staff turnover, Sean has stayed through the turmoil to provide consistent leadership for students and peer teachers alike. He has an unwaivering positive attitude and goes above and beyond to help his school succeed.
Sean finds creative solutions to challenges large and small. For example, he pursues mini-grants for materials his students need, designs afterschool English classes for parents, and plans multi-sensory lessons that engage his English Language Learner students -including a non-fiction reading unit that culminated in students planting a vegetable garden that became so popular that ALL students want to be in his class.
Sean is highly respected among his peers. He serves as teachers union building representative and was a Teach Plus Teaching Policy Fellow who has been active in advocating for policy change that will elevate the teaching profession. He has bold ideas and is unafraid to go against the grain when he believes that a new policy will benefit his students. Sean also has a great sense of humor, which endears him to students and adults alike.
As a bonus, Sean is an avid runner, which he says helps relieve the stress of teaching!" CR
