Sarah-Louise Casey is a former multiple World Record holder in disability swimming (Down Syndrome) and has an incredible catalogue of sporting achievements across a range of national and international events.
Sarah-Louise is an inspiration to young swimmers and is a credit to her sport. As well as training to compete, Sarah-Louise also devotes her time to training others and helping swimmers on a one-to-one basis. Sarah-Louise is also one of Bexley's 'Sporting Best' athletes - a scheme run in partnership with Worldwide Olympic Partner Coca Cola to support gifted young sports people in the borough
Sarah's story started at the age of 4 when an initial fear of both the noise and the water was soon overcome to see Sarah gain confidence and join a local swimming club for disabled people. Following the development of the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation Sarah-Louise was able to compete with athletes in her own category. Since this time, amongst a wide range of other successes, Sarah-Louise has competed at 5 World Championships amassing a collection of over 40 medals including 13 golds, breaking 13 World Records in the process. She currently holds 8 European Open and 3 European Masters records.
In 2007 Sarah-Louise was named as the London Sports Forum's Sportswoman of the Year, demonstrating the high regard in which she is held, picking up the award alongside Sportsman of the Year, 6-time Paralympic medallist David Weir. CR
