Sarah was nominated due to her 2010/2011 sporting achievments and as a member of the UWE Elite Scheme. Twenty-two year old Sarah studies Adult Nursing at UWE, says "I have been training very hard and am happy all the hard work is paying off. The 'Elite UWE' programme has helped me in many areas I needed to improve on such as nutrition, becoming stronger and more explosive in my fighting, and analysing my performance to become less predictable and to set targets. I have quite a few events coming up, I am in the Scottish international open on the weekend, and have the European university championships in July.
Sarah first got into her sport at the age of 6 in her hometown of Weston-super-Mare when she joined the Weston Karate Union WKU. Keen on taking it to a higher level Sarah applied to take part in the BUCS games representing UWE, her ambitions are to be on the England team.
Richard Bennett, Performance Manager of UWE's Centre for Sport said "Sarah's success is a good example of how out team of EliteUWE staff work together to optimise performance. Sarah has been outstanding in her commitment to sport while at the same time pursuing her degree in nursing".
