Sarah's nomination story

Sarah`s physical disability has given her a gritty determination to attempt everything! Attending a mainstream school, Sarah is a lively young woman with a great sense of fun but she has had to endure a considerable amount of bullying. This has served to sharpen her sense of fair play and to stand up for the underdog. Sarah runs a lunchtime history club at school and helps with the local Scouts. In response to the First News My Way! campaign, which raises awareness of the 1 in 5 children identified with special educational needs, Sarah responded by sharing her own very personal story with the 1 million readers of First News. She was chosen as one of a small group of young people to meet with the Childrens Minister Sarah Teather to contribute to the Green Paper, attended a reception at Downing Street as an Ambassador for the campaign, and was filmed in a mini-documentary to share with other young people what her condition has meant for her. Sarah is an exceptional role model and First News is delighted to recommend her for this exceptional opportunity.
