Sandra Domizio

I would like to nominate Sandra because she provides inspiration to others in so many ways. Firstly, as a fifty year old, she has recently taken up triathlon and has already completed a half ironman triathlon and next year will be completing a full ironman triathlon. In doing so, she sets a fantastic example that it's never too late to take part in demanding sports and to be all you can be. Secondly, she has coupled her sporting achievements with determined fundraising efforts and last year raised over £10,000 for Haven, a charity supporting those with terminal cancer. This charity is very dear to her heart following her sister`s diagnosis last year and the help that Haven have given her and others in her situation. Finally, she has been a stalwart of the local community and has single handedly taken the initiative to drive forward projects aimed at improving facilities for youngsters. Several years ago, after recognising that the area suffered from serious vandalism, she organised and chaired a community meeting to find solutions to the problem. She also went out on her own at night to meet the youths involved in the anti social behaviour to understand their perspective. The result was that funding was gained from the local authority for a youth club to be set up in the local village hall. This led to a marked reduction in vandalism, which persists to this day. In summary, Sandra is a truly inspirational person and would be a very worthy torchbearer.
